How to Get Involved with Us on Campus

We have five fantastic SWE committees that help us plan all of our events on campus. How can you join one of these committees? Show up to the weekly meetings!

Can't make it to any of the committee times, or you're just too busy? No worries! No official SWE membership is needed to come and participate in any of our events. Check out our calendar to see when the next event is.

How to Become a National SWE Member

There are two levels at which you can get involved with SWE, including a sectional level as well as a national level. You maybe be active in the University of Utah's section of SWE just by attending events, serving on one of our committees, or participating in our mentorship program. You don't need an official membership to be involved with us on campus. But what if you want to be involved with the organization at the national level?

SWE offers multiple membership options for people who are interested in joining the organization at the national level. As a paid national SWE member, you get access to scholarships and job opportunities, a vast network of online education, resume reviews, and the possibility of being funded to attend a Society of Women Engineers conference.

As college students, we recommend to the College to Career (C2C) membership, which is a one-time payment of $50 which covers your membership all the years you are in college plus one year after graduation.

Why should you become a SWE National Member?

  • Conference Eligibility: If you become a SWE National Member, it makes you eligible to travel with us to SWE conference. Our chapter helps with the costs of conference, including travel and hotel.
  • Event Discounts: Some of our events on campus cost a small fee. If you are a SWE National Member, these fees will be reduced or waived.
  • Scholarship Eligibility: With over $500,000 available to a limited pool of applicants, your chances of being awarded a scholarship skyrocket.
  • SWE Career Center: Internships, full-time employment, and career planning at your fingertips. Submit a resume, and let employers find you. SWE is in contact with major and minor companies to help you get to your dream.
  • Other Discounts: We are all poor college students. Kaplan offers a 10% discount on SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT, DAT, OAT, or PCAT prep classes so you can ace those exams. Locally, SWE members can receive emails of prep tests that are offered on campus, oftentimes for lower rates, or for free.
  • Professional Workshops: LinkedIn is a huge recruiting forum, let’s make yours flawless at our workshops. Gain a mentor to lead you through your undergraduate years. Figure out the opportunities within your major. We have workshops for that and so much more (half our members are in national level internships this summer, so we know what we are doing).
  • Resume Booster: We want to build lasting friendships, but we know that resume’s are do or die, so boost yours here.
  • Lasting Friendships: You can never have too many, and building a tight network of engineers will get you far in life.
